Killarney Regatta 1890

The event which was held Thursday, August 14 was a great success. The programme contained eleven events and the rendezvous was held at Innisfallen Island which is situated on the Lower Lake and which has been immortalised by Moore.

The day was favourable and the Lake was in an admirable condition for aquatics, and the Band of the Munster Fusiliers was stationed on the Island and discoursed excellent music during the day. The committee assembled on the wharf which was anchored close to the island.

The sports commenced at one o'clock with the sailing race open to all boats not exceeding 19 feet in length. The second race competed for by pair-oar party boats. The principal race was for six-oared boats (confied to Lough Lein R.C. for a prize value of £6 and £3. The  Hotel Keepers Race was raced for the Silver Cup and prize of £11. The sports finished by six o'clock.

There was a slight drop in attendance as compared with former years which has been explained by the fact that the Regatta was held so soon after the Races.
